Women can dunk too?

Backstory time….

When I started Dunk Lounge I wasn't sure what it was going to be. I was sharing all types of different basketball content with no real goal or theme.

A few weeks went by and it became clear to me that there was an appetite for women’s basketball, so i started to put energy into that.

Knowing how volatile the WNBA community is currently, I was fully expecting to get multiple people saying “Why are you called Dunk Lounge and talking about women’s basketball? They don't dunk!”

The days went on and not one person wanted to die on that hill…....until recently.

One thing about me is I always have all of my bases covered and I'm ready for every scenario that could pop off.

I thought it would be the perfect launch for this newsletter to highlight some of the women who have dunked in women’s basketball, not only as a point of reference but also selfishly so I have a nicely packaged “receipt” if someone tries me again.

So let's get into some of my favourite dunks.

Lisa Leslie

Lisa Leslie was the first player to dunk in the WNBA, which is pretty fitting since she ended up have a very decorated career.

Some of her accomplishments include being a 7 time WNBA Allstar with 3 Allstar MVP’s, First team all WNBA 8 times and two time defensive player of the year.

Lets not forget she is a 2 time WNBA champion.

Candace Parker

Candace Parker was the first female player to dunk in NCAA tournament history and than went on to dunk a second time in this game.

She than went on to the WNBA and became the second player to dunk in WNBA history, as well as win three championships with three different teams.

Goated.

Brittney Griner

Brittney has 26 dunks so i am crowning her the dunk queen.

That pairs just nicely with her 3 Olympic medals.
